Ina Garten’s new book Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics: Fabulous Flavor from Simple Ingredients
is really chock-full with beautiful photos and elegant recipes. Even more than the recipes, though, are the non-recipe ideas. Things that you can throw together when all of a sudden you have a few people over and you’ve had little to no prep-time.
She has a list of 10 no-cook things to serve for dessert. Here are my top five. (For all 10, pick up the book!)
Top Five
1) Store-bought brownies, coffee ice cream, and chocolate sauce
2) Strawberries mascerated with sugar and good balsamic vinegar
3) Store-bought chocolate cake with melted vanilla Häagen-Dazs ice cream as a sauce and fresh raspberries
4) Store-bought pound cake toasted and drizzled with honey and fresh raspberries
5) Vanilla ice cream mixed with chopped crystallized ginger and store-bought almond biscotti
